Content Management System (CMS)
A content management system allows non-specialist users to add, remove or change pictures, products or pages on their website, avoiding the need to call in website designers for every minor change.
It is typically used to manage product pages, which often need to be updated as new products are released, prices change etc. In the case of products, it can be easily extended to offer online sales / e-commerce.
Content management systems can equally be applied to an entire site, covering every single page.
Keeping a site up to date whilst maintaining quality
A key advantage of content management systems is the ability to define those parts of a page that can be edited and those which are fixed. This functionality can help ensure the design of a site remains of a high quality and consistent throughout, whilst enabling non-specialist staff to keep the site up to date.
For many simple sites we recommend Adobe's Contribute software as an effective content management system solution.
